AWeber is free for up to 500 contacts, with 3,000 emails a month and 1 workflow automation. Past that you pay by list size. Up to 500 subscribers, Lite is $15 a month and Plus $30 a month; up to 1,000, they’re $25 a month and $45 a month. Stay free while your list fits. When you pay, pick Lite for more room and Plus if AWeber’s branding has to go.

Which plan should a small business pick?

Free, while your list fits. It holds up to 500 contacts, sends 3,000 emails a month, and includes 1 list and 1 workflow automation, which is enough for a welcome email. AWeber calls it lifetime access, and you don’t need a card to start it. Your emails carry AWeber’s branding.

Lite, when you’ve outgrown the free plan and the branding doesn’t bother you. It gives you 3 email automations, 3 users, 3 landing pages, round-the-clock support, and monthly sends of 10 times the subscriber tier. It’s $25 a month up to 1,000 subscribers and $35 a month up to 2,500. It keeps 1 email list, like the free plan.

Plus, when AWeber’s name has to come off your emails, or you need more lists, automations, or people. It removes the branding and makes lists, landing pages, automations, and users unlimited, with priority support and sales tracking. It’s $45 a month up to 1,000 subscribers and $55 a month up to 2,500. If the branding is fine and you can’t name the fourth automation you’d build, Lite is enough. AWeber’s own pages differ on the branding: its free-trial FAQ says paid plans remove it, while its pricing page and documentation put branding removal on Plus only, which is what this page follows. Check the plan card on the pricing page before you pay, because a wrong guess here costs you money.

Say you run a one-person piano studio with about 420 people on your list: current students’ families, former students, and people who asked about lessons. You send a weekly practice tip and, once a month, a recital or open-house announcement, and you’d like new sign-ups to get a welcome email with your lesson times.

The free plan covers all of it. In a month with five weekly emails and one announcement, that’s 2,520 sends to 420 people, inside its 3,000 emails a month, and the welcome email is the one workflow automation it includes. The cost is nothing; what you give up is AWeber’s branding on every email.

The day your list passes 500 contacts, AWeber asks you to upgrade. Up to 1,000 subscribers, Lite is $25 a month and still shows the branding; Plus is $45 a month and doesn’t. Decide which matters before you get there. And keep only people who agreed to hear from you: a parent who asked about lessons once hasn’t signed up for weekly tips.

What moves you up a plan or a tier?

Your list and your sending. Each paid plan is priced by subscriber tier, and each tier includes a set number of sends. Pass either and AWeber moves you up a tier automatically: sending carries on, and the next bill is higher. Lite is $15 a month up to 500 subscribers and $25 a month from 501.

Going down isn’t automatic. If you delete subscribers, your tier stays where it was until you ask AWeber’s support team to lower it.

Then features. The move from Free to Lite is about room: more subscribers, more sends, more automations and landing pages. The move from Lite to Plus is about the branding, more than one list, more automations than Lite’s 3, or selling through AWeber at its lower Plus transaction fee.

Every figure is the whole monthly bill for the subscriber tier, not a price per subscriber. The yearly column is the per-month price when you pay for a year at once.

Costs that are easy to miss

  • The pricing page opens on yearly prices. It shows “Billed annually” first, under a “Get up to 4 Months Free” banner, so the figure you see is lower than the monthly bill. Read the saving off the prices: Plus up to 500 subscribers is $30 a month billed monthly and $20 a month billed yearly, but up to 1,000 it’s $45 a month against $37.50 a month, a smaller saving.
  • Extra sends cost you a tier, not a fee. Send more than your tier includes and AWeber moves you to the next tier for the higher price. A busy month can raise your plan.
  • A clean-up doesn’t lower the bill. Deleting subscribers leaves your tier where it was. Ask support for the downgrade.
  • The trial turns into a paid plan unless you cancel. The 14-day trial of Lite or Plus asks for a card, and on the day it ends AWeber charges it for the plan you chose, at your subscriber count then. If you don’t want to pay, cancel in the Billing section of your account settings before that day. The trial can also end early: going past the trial plan’s subscriber tier or its sending limit, or changing plan or tier during the trial, starts the paid plan and its charge straight away. The free plan doesn’t need a card.
  • The free plan stops when its sends run out. Use your monthly sends and you can’t send again until you upgrade or the month resets. Count your sends before a busy month.
  • Discounts exist if they apply to you. AWeber offers discounts to nonprofits and students, with proof of status.

Our view

AWeber’s free plan is a sound start for a small list that wants a welcome email: it covers a weekly newsletter and one automation at no cost and with no clock on it. Our position: stay free until your list or your sends outgrow it, then choose by the branding. If AWeber’s name on your emails is fine, Lite on monthly billing; if it isn’t, Plus. What you give up is price on the paid plans and the branding on Lite. At 1,000 contacts and about one email a week, Lite is $25 a month, while the lowest paid bill in this guide is Brevo (Starter) at $17 a month. If you’re about to pay, price the other tools at your size first.

Your next step

Count your list and the emails you send in a month. If your list fits in 500 contacts and your sends in 3,000 emails a month, start AWeber’s free plan, set up your welcome email as its automation, and send your next newsletter from it. If you’ve outgrown that, decide on the branding first, then start AWeber’s 14-day trial on Lite or Plus, on monthly billing. The trial asks for a card and becomes a paid plan on its last day unless you cancel, so put that date in your calendar, and import only a list that fits the tier you chose.
